Danish Bakery – part of CPHCL, the majority shareholder of the Corinthia Group – has embarked upon an ambitious expansion project that will take its signature Maltese-made breads and baked goods to international markets.

A major upgrade to its facilities includes a fully modernised production floor featuring advanced automation, energy-efficient systems, and upgraded packaging lines to produce a wider range of frozen and part-baked bread products for the Mediterranean region and beyond.

At the heart of this transformation is a focus on innovation, sustainability and healthy offerings. Danish Bakery is developing a new line of ‘next-generation’ breads designed to meet modern consumer expectations – cleaner labels, natural ingredients, reduced salt, and longer shelf life achieved through technology rather than additives.

Jean-Pierre Schembri, CEO of CPHCL, said: “The move forms part of a broader strategy by CPHCL to strengthen its manufacturing and food production portfolio, investing in industries that combine tradition with innovation. It also underscores the group’s commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and long-term value creation across its diverse business network.”

Ian Genuis, CEO of Danish Bakery Ltd, said: “This expansion is about exporting Maltese craftsmanship, embracing sustainability, and positioning Danish Bakery as a regional player with global standards. Danish Bakery has always been a symbol of quality and consistency in Malta. Our next step is to take that same quality to a wider audience.”

Danish Bakery has long been a household name in Malta, known for its dedication to quality, craftsmanship, and traditional recipes.

Established in the 1970s, the company has grown from a small local bakery into a state-of-the-art producer supplying leading retailers and hospitality operators across the island. The company is now investing heavily in new technology and infrastructure to expand its reach.

CPHCL Company Ltd is the majority shareholder in Danish Bakery, which is based in Bulebel.
