The Commerce Department’s Trade Licencing Unit, has, in consultation with the Central Bank of Malta (CBM), granted Creditinfo Malta Limited a licence to operate as a credit rating agency (CRA).
This allows the company to issue credit scores on natural and legal persons, as well as credit institutions.
Per the CBM’s online list of licensed CRAs, Creditinfo Malta is the first and only licensed firm operating in Malta.
CreditInfo Malta is a subsidiary of international group Creditinfo International, which operates 33 credit bureaus worldwide, and that describes itself as “the most widespread global partner in the field of risk management.”

According to the Malta Business Registry, its local branch has as its principle registered Director, Legal and Judicial Representative one Simon Camilleri, who has served as CEO of the local branch for over 10 years, and who is Head of International Business and Data Sales for the international Group.
Under Malta’s Trade Licensing Act (Cap 441) – Trade Licences Regulation introduced in 2018, Creditinfo, and all other aspiring CRAs, are required to submit a license to operate locally, giving them access to the CBM’s Central Credit Register.
This register consists of information compiled by all banks licensed by the Malta Financial Services Authority, on clients who have financial exposures exceeding €5,000, including both legal and natural persons, but excluding credit institutions.
According to the CBM’s announcement of Creditinfo Malta Limited’s approval, the firm will now have a five-year renewable licence to operate as a CRA.
