Staff at Commando Restaurant in Mellieha had the pleasure of welcoming two UK football greats, Denis Irwin and Bryan Robson, who visited the restaurant on Monday morning.
Announcing the visit on social media, Commando Restaurant, which has been awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide for Malta, described the pair as being Manchester United legends.
Mr Irwin is best known for his long and successful stint at Manchester United football club, where he established himself as one of the most important players in the United team that won a host of domestic and European trophies in his time there between 1990 and 2002. He has been regarded by former coach Alex Ferguson as, pound for pound, his greatest ever signing.
Mr Robson is a football manager and a former player. In 1981, he moved to Manchester United. There he became the longest-serving captain in the club's history and won two Premier League winners' medals, three FA Cups, one Football League Cup, two FA Charity Shields and a European Cup Winners' Cup. In August 2011, Mr Robson was voted as the greatest ever Manchester United player in a poll of the club's former players as part of a book, 19, released to celebrate the club's record-breaking 19th league title.
Commando Restaurant, a favourite among locals, boasts a proud culinary tradition dating back to the wartime 1930s. Nestled within a tastefully restored 300-year-old building, the restaurant’s ambience has inherited the original building’s charm, “which has been further accentuated by a non-invasive and tasteful décor”.
