The Bonnici Brothers Group, a leading player in the civil engineering and road building industry, has invested €2.1 million in new machinery, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Robert Abela.
Partially funded by Malta Enterprise through EU funds, the project forms part of an even larger investment to the tune of €9 million.
Group Managing Director Gilbert Bonnici said the investment complements the strategy to further widen the range of services offered to the Maltese market. He thanked Malta Enterprise for the way in which it manages schemes that made it possible for the Group to continue investing in efficient machinery.
The Prime Minister said that, despite the unprecedented challenges of the past months, the Government remained committed to stand four-square with Maltese businesses. The confidence the Government has in investors like the Bonnici Bros Group, which did not shy away from challenges, was translated in the creation of new jobs, he added.
Dr Abela noted that from a modest company that employed a handful of people, the Bonnici Bros Group grew to incorporate a number of companies that together offered jobs to 300 workers. The latest investment would serve to continue expanding the workforce, he said.
Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Minister Ian Borg noted that the new machinery purchased by Bonnici Bros Group, which had a lower impact on the environment, should serve to continue improving the quality of raw materials in Malta.
