Multinational healthcare company Baxter on Thursday (today) announced that it will be expanding its medical equipment factory in Malta following a €60 million investment.
The announcement was made during a visit by Prime Minister Robert Abela at the company’s facility in the Marsa Industrial Estate. He was accompanied by Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri.
Baxter will be assisted with financing through Malta Enterprise and INDIS Malta.
The investment is expected to result in 180 new jobs and will raise productive capacity by 20 per cent. This represents the company’s third expansion in Malta.
Baxter Malta Manufacturing Director Christelle D’Amato stated that this investment will result in the strengthening of the provision of medical devices across the world, both in the present and in the future.
“On behalf of Baxter, I want to thank the Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, together with Malta Enterprise and INDIS Malta for their continuous support towards Baxter’s presence in Malta,” she said.
Dr Abela remarked that this is another investment that will create quality jobs in Malta, including for youths who are studying at University of Malta or the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST).
Baxter has a long history in Malta, having been present in the country since 1988. Its Malta site specialises in the manufacturing of plastic products used in hospitals and clinicals globally.
