Maltese banking professional Andre Portelli has been named Head of Investment Solutions by EFG International, a major Switzerland-based private bank.
His appointment will take effect on 1st February 2024, pending regulatory approval.
In his new role, he will report to Giorgio Pradelli, CEO of EFG International, and will oversee the bank’s global investment activities. He will also become a member of EFG’s Executive Committee and the Global Business Committee.
Mr Portelli has over 20 years of experience in the private and investment banking sectors, including seven years with UBS, the largest Swiss banking institution and the largest private bank in the world.
During his time with UBS, he held a number a number of senior roles, and was one of the original members of the Institutional Solutions Group, focusing on delivering institutional solutions to ultra high net worth (UHNW) clients of the bank. Mr Portelli was responsible for the placement of over $4 billion of private capital transactions during this period.
Since 2017, he has worked with Barclays Private Bank as Global Co-Head of Investment, Global Head of Strategic Solutions, and Global Head of Private Markets, developing products for the bank’s wealthy clients.
Mr Portelli is a graduate of the University of Malta and Milan’s Bocconi University Business School, having a Master’s degree in International Economics and Management, Money, Banking, and Finance.
The position he will take on come February 2023 has been occupied on an interim basis by Moz Afzal and Oliver Heinzelmann since February 2022, alongside their roles as Chief Investment Officer and CEO of EFG Asset Management (EFGAM) and Head of Strategy and Business Development Investment Solutions, respectively.
As from next year, Mr Afzal will refocus his attention to his primary role, while Mr Heinzelmann will take on a new role as Chief Operating Officer of Investment Solutions.
Both will report to Mr Portelli.
