Alejandro Borg has been appointed Company Secretary at Horizon Finance plc, with effect on 18th December 2023, the company announced on Friday.

The appointment comes after Johan Farrugia resigned from the position with effect on the same day, having served in the role for more than three years. The company thanked him for his services to the Board of Directors. His resignation came on the same day he left his position as Company Secretary of Shoreline Mall plc.

Horizon Finance plc was incorporated in October 2018, set up to act as a financing and holding company. It is owned, in equal proportions, by Zircon Capital Ltd and Cornhill Capital Ltd, with Kevin Deguara serving as Executive Director and Chairman.

Dr Borg is an experienced legal professional who obtained his Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 2016 and graduated as a lawyer with a Master of Advocacy in 2017. He was then admitted to the Maltese Bar in 2018.

He is also Lead Senior Associate at Malta-based law firm DF Advocates, having joined as a Legal Trainee back in 2015. Dr Borg worked his way up the corporate ladder, and has served as Lead Senior Associate for the past year.

Aside from his qualifications from University of Malta, he also achieved certifications from the Malta Institute of Financial Services Practitioners, the Malta Institute of Taxation, and the Malta Institute of Management.

Dr Borg primarily works in the financial services sector, and has been involved in several mergers and acquisitions, financing projects, as well as licence applications with the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA). He is approved by the MFSA and acts as Compliance Officer and Company Secretary to regulated and non-regulated entities.
