Malta International Airport (MIA) registered a total of 658,328 passenger movements in February, representing a 17 per cent increase over the same month of 2025 as efforts to boost winter tourism bear fruit.

When comparing passenger movements in February 2026 to those in February 2024, the increase is even more stark, with the airport attracting 38.8 per cent more traffic over the two years.

In February 2026, Italy registered an 18.2 per cent market share, slightly ahead of the UK which accounted for 18.1 per cent of all traffic.

The importance of the Polish market continued to grow, accounting for 14.1 per cent of total movements in February – up from 11.4 per cent a year earlier.

Poland has emerged as a key source market for Malta’s tourism sector, with traffic from the country surging by close to 50 per cent in 2025. It now ranks among Malta’s top three markets.

Total aircraft movements were up by 12.1 per cent year-on-year, totalling 4,426 movements, while seat load factor for the month also saw an uptick of 1.1 percentage points to reach 81.6 per cent.

Daily traffic peaked at 30,875 movements on the 15th of the month, as the Carnival and Valentine’s Day festivities over the weekend drew to a close.
