Last Thursday, 7th April, Air Malta operated flight KM7510, a five-hour 45-minute, 2,100 nautical mile, direct flight to Abidjan, the economic capital of the Ivory Coast, transporting COVID vaccine doses donated by Malta’s Government.

The flight, operated by the national airline’s youngest Airbus A320neo aircraft 9H-NED, and coordinated by the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, arrived in Abidjan on Thursday afternoon.

The Government donated 200,000 vaccine doses to the Ivory Coast, in a show of solidarity with countries in need, in particular to Sub-Saharan Africa. This sharing of vaccines follows efforts by Malta to provide COVID-19-related assistance to a number of countries since the pandemic began.

Malta’s entire vaccination sharing efforts, which have resulted in the delivery of more than 710,000 vaccine doses to countries in need in recent months, have been jointly led by the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade and the Ministry for Health, working closely with the Civil Protection Department.

Over the past months Air Malta has also operated flights to Libya, Egypt, Ghana and Rwanda to deliver vaccines.
