Towards the end of September, “the world’s largest sailing ship”, Wind Surf, was spotted in Maltese waters.

In a picture taken and shared by Viktor Vella, the Wind Surf can be spotted behind the Selmun Palace in Mellieħa.

According to CruiseMapper, Wind Surf embarked on an 18-day cruise, departing on 21st September from Civitavecchia, Rome, to arrive in Venice on 9th October. The tracker pinned Gozo and Valletta as two of the destinations which the vessel stopped on the 25th and 26th of September.

Carrying the Bahamian flag, the luxury vessel has the capacity to welcome 342 guests, featuring 150 deluxe ocean view staterooms, 18 deluxe ocean view suites, two deluxe ocean view bridge suites and the officer’s suite. The officer’s suite offers passengers the chance to stay in the heart of the officer quarters, behind the bridge.

With a length of 535 feet at waterline, Wind Surf is adorned with six decks and features seven self-furling, computer operated sails with 26,881 square feet of Dacron surface area.

Recently, it underwent a significant renovation of its public spaces and suites, including an expanded lounge with new lights and sound for stage performances.

The Wind Surf is operated by Windstar Cruises, the operator of a six-ship fleet and “a market leader in small ship cruising, with a total of 1,242 passenger berths calling on off-the-beaten-path and popular ports in over 60 countries.”

Furthermore, Windstar Cruises forms part of the Xanterra Travel Collection, a group of global hospitality and travel companies, owned by The Anschutz Corporation.
