Having obtained a BSc Business Administration from Bentley University, in Boston and an MBA from the Peter Drucker School of Management, in California, Simon De Cesare returned to Malta after working in London for a while and joined the family business.

“By 2011,” he says, “I was appointed Director of Operations and, in 2018, I became Eden Leisure Group’s CEO. I am a Council Member of the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association and president of the Malta Business Bureau.”

The Eden Leisure Group has been in the forefront of hospitality and entertainment in Malta since the early days of tourism. Starting with its first hotel, the Eden Rock, in 1967, it moved its operations to St Georges’ Bay in the 1980s and diversified into the entertainment sector with a state-of-the-art discotheque. This was soon followed by other clubs, a bowling centre, a radio station and Malta’s first multiplex cinema, Eden Cinemas, which, at its height, boasted of 21 screens. In the 1990s, the Group invested heavily in Malta’s largest 5-star hotel with 451 rooms and 46 apartments, the Cynergi health and fitness club, an Imax theatre and a car park. A few years later, it invested in the St. Georges’ Bay beach and opened a restaurant on the water’s edge and a lido.

The Group also won a concession to operate a casino.
