Mistra Bay restaurant Margo’s is set to close after the leasing of its property was refused by the owners, it announced on Monday.

The restaurant’s management has been “forced to vacate the building”, as the owners “refused to renew” the lease, after already selling part of the Palazzo Santa Rosa “to a disgraced ex-politician with plans to have a nightclub” in the location.

“We tried our hardest,” the restaurant’s management said, before adding “We showed restraint and calmness throughout, but the court has ruled that such behaviour is not conducive to justice in a modern society”.

While they would “love” to find another location where the restaurant can reopen to “offer families a refuge from the daily grind, where kids can run freely, where amazing food can be served, where people can forget the daily toil,” a new location is yet to be found.

The management called for anyone that might know of a new property to contact them.

Additionally, the management appealed for anyone that could take on the “number of cats, numerous chickens, and pony that we need to home”.

The restaurant will remain open until the end of August, after which the property will be vacated.

“Until then, join us in the celebration of life, love and kindness,” the management continued, with ongoing events like “Jazz on Sundays” set to continue for the time being.

“Laugh and love in a piece of heaven before it is turned into God knows what,” the management said, before adding that they will keep customers updated.

Apart from its restaurant in Mistra Bay, Margo’s also has restaurants in St Julian’s and Valletta.
