The National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) has bid a heartfelt farewell to two of its long-serving members, Tony Micallef and Helen, as they embark on their well-earned retirement.

In a social media post, the NBTS expressed its gratitude, stating: "Thank you, Tony and Helen, for your service throughout the years at the National Blood Transfusion Service. Wishing you endless success and happiness in all your future endeavours. Good luck."

The announcement prompted an outpouring of appreciation from colleagues, blood donors, and well-wishers.

One commenter commended Mr Micallef’s commitment, writing: "Congratulations, Tony! A well-deserved recognition for many years of exceptional service. On to the next chapter… you will be missed." Another added: "It was a great honour to work with you both. Good luck for your future. Enjoy your retirement."

Blood donors also took the opportunity to share their gratitude, with one noting the personal touch Mr Micallef brought to his role: "Congratulations on your retirement, Tony. No more long chats when I come to donate blood then. Good luck!"

The importance of blood donations cannot be overstated. Accident victims may require up to 70 blood transfusions to survive, while patients undergoing cancer treatment and those living with conditions such as thalassaemia rely on regular donations.
