Charlene Grech, Senior Manager – Risk & Compliance

What attracted you to join ARQ?

I was approached to join ARQ by ex-colleagues, so it was encouraging to know that I could take on new challenges surrounded by familiar faces. Apart from that, the level of expertise at ARQ is unmatched, making the decision to join an easy one.

Why do you stay? What keeps you?

The team I work with, the learning experiences and the flexibility I am given to manage both my work and home life are my top reasons for staying at ARQ.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

I would love to say “retired”! I prefer to live day-by-day and make short-term plans I know I can commit to. Nevertheless, I see myself having accumulated a wealth of knowledge and proficiency in the various areas we deal with at ARQ.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening (particularly indoor plants), anything related to home design and if I had the luxury, I would do more travelling.

Fun fact:

I faced my fear of heights by skydiving headfirst when I took a trip to Australia. Although I can’t say I overcame my fear, I certainly looked it in the eye that day!

Kai Kleingunther, Senior Advisor - Risk & Compliance

What attracted you to join ARQ?

I joined less than a year ago. At ARQ, I have been challenged to leave my comfort zone, both on a professional and personal level, which has created room for developing new skills, knowledge, and relationships and this keeps me going and wanting to stay with ARQ. They say you only grow when leaving your comfort zone.”

Why do you stay?

The challenges that this role presents are very interesting and I enjoy working within a cohesive team.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

My ambition is to lead a team of risk advisors. During this time, I hope to have completed a master’s degree in Data Protection / Data Economy / Data Governance.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I like spending time exploring Malta’s long history, culture, and people. I also enjoy diving in and around Malta and exploring the underwater world.

Believe or not, my surname is very German, but I was born and raised in Namibia, Africa.

In five years, I see myself continuing to grow and take on more responsibilities within ARQ. I aim to leverage the skills and experiences I've gained to move into a leadership role, where I can help guide and mentor newer team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

In my free time, I enjoy pursuing my passion for photography. Additionally, I love traveling and exploring new places. I also value spending time with my friends and family. Meeting up helps me unwind, recharge, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Fun fact:

I’m a thrill seeker and love rollercoasters. I try to go to different fun parks to ride the rollercoasters.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

I see myself growing both personally and professionally within the Group. In five years, I aspire to take on a more advanced leadership role within the HR department. I aim to lead initiatives that drive strategic talent management and organisational development, contributing to ARQ's mission of fostering a collaborative and innovative workplace.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I like to engage in a variety of activities that help me relax and recharge. I regularly go to the gym or attend a fitness class, which help me stay balanced and focused.

Fun fact:

I used to be a ballet dancer, and I even have a degree in ballet with 15 years of learning and practice. Ballet has always been a significant part of my life, and it has taught me invaluable lessons in discipline, dedication, and creativity.

In a nutshell, it's the continuous learning opportunities, and my colleagues that keep me motivated and engaged in my work here.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

In five years, I envision myself having completed the ACCA and excelling in my career within the company. I see myself taking on more challenging roles, particularly in finance. My aim is to continuously grow and learn.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love engaging in creative activities like drawing, soaking up of the sun by the beach, and most importantly, spending quality time with my son.

I’m guilty of being a shopaholic.
