Long-serving University of Malta academic Simon Grima has been elected President of Finance at the University of Latvia, the department’s head announced this week.

Prof Grima is a prominent local scholar, having lectured at the University of Malta since 2002, and served as Head of the University’s Insurance Department since 2015.

Ramona Rupeika-Apoga, Head of the University of Latvia’s Finance and Accounting Department announced his election on social media, and welcomed him, saying his skills and talents would be a “great addition” to the team.

The University of Latvia is Latvia’s leading state-run university and in the Times Higher Education Rankings ranks 137th worldwide for Emerging Economies. In the World University Ranking, it places in the top 800.

Aside from his position at the University of Malta, Prof Grima is also Managing Partner of G&E Brothers, and has served in a number of prominent positions, including as Manager of the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) and President of the Malta Association of Compliance Officers.
