Local manufacturing company SAW Ltd has unveiled a €9 million investment to expand its operations, increase its factory space, target foreign markets and offer high-quality jobs.

The company was founded from a garage in Għargħur in 1991, but today employs close to 70 employees operating from its 3,500 square metre factory at the Handaq Industrial Zone.

SAW Ltd manufactures furniture products for both local and international markets. Its employees vary from installers, technical work, skilled workers, designers, and administrative workers.

The company invested €9 million to continue expanding its factory to a five-storey complex. This investment was made possible due to various schemes offered by Malta Enterprise, such as the Investment Aid Scheme along with EU funding under the Business Enhance ERDF Grant Schemes.

It also invested in energy-efficient systems and smart technology, whilst 25 per cent of electric consumption is generated from renewable energy. Additionally, the company recycles its waste by giving it to farmers for agriculture use.

This week, the company hosted a visit by Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli, during which the MP praised the company’s forward-looking vision.

On his part, SAW Ltd Manager Mark Cassar explained that since the inception of the company, both himself and director Stephen Azzopardi worked to invest in both the physical elements of the factory, as well as in human resources “We always looked ahead to offer a better and quality service, whilst being competitive and efficient.

"We now look forward to keep on investing in sustainability. Thanks to the assistance by Malta Enterprise and EU funding under the Business Enhance ERDF Grant Schemes, we managed to implement projects that we would not have been able to implement on our own,” Mr Cassar said.

“This expansion continues to prove the interest our country generates to both local and foreign investors. We will continue supporting investments that generate quality jobs and sustainable growth,” said Dr Dalli, adding that the assistance provided helps to attract new investments whilst supporting existing ones.
