On Tuesday, many were saddened and shocked by the sudden closure of the much loved Gżira café and patisserie, Damiano’s Desserts.

The shop is known for being one of the very few businesses on the islands to have gluten- and dairy-free products and so, news of the closure saddened those who for the past years relied on it for desserts.

In a post on Facebook, the business thanked its loyal customers for choosing them for the past “three beautiful years.” In return, many customers – local and foreign – sent them well-wishes and remarked on Malta losing “the best gluten-free patisserie on the island.”

In comments given to WhosWho.mt, the owners remarked that the reason behind the closure was not motivated by work but for personal reasons.

“In fact, work was going well,” owners Marco and Silvana said.

Asked whether they have any plans to open the business in other locations, just like customers wished, the owners replied that unfortunately, for the time being, they have no new openings planned.
