The European Union Delegation to the United States has announced the appointment of Ruth Bajada as its new Deputy Head of Delegation in Washington, D.C.

A seasoned diplomat from Malta, Ms Bajada brings more than two decades of experience in EU affairs and foreign policy to her new role.

Prior to this appointment, Ms Bajada served as Deputy Director and Head of Division for the United States and Canada at the European External Action Service (EEAS) from 2020 to 2024. Her diplomatic career also includes serving as Political Advisor to the EEAS Secretary General (2019–2020) and holding postings in Chile (2015–2019) and Lebanon (2012–2015).

Ms Bajada’s journey within the European institutions began in 2002 when she joined the European Parliament and later worked at the Secretariat General of the Council of Ministers.

Academically, Ms Bajada holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Malta, a master’s degree in European studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, and a master’s degree in international relations from ULB/Paris II.
