Mellieha hotel Ramla Bay Resort has temporarily closed until 9th February 2023 to allow for a redevelopment project of its main building to take place, it announced on Tuesday.
The project is expected to be completed by summer 2024, after the Planning Authority approved the hotel’s application for redevelopment.
“We strive to offer a product like no other in the Maltese Islands. To achieve this distinctive goal, we are redeveloping the main building of the resort, which will be demolished and replaced by three new buildings complementing the existing Atrium wing,” the hotel’s management said.
Each new building will feature an atrium and indoor garden concept, which has “rapidly become synonymous with the Ramla Bay Resort”.
The new additions will feature 400 guest rooms and suites, “thoughtfully designed to maximise the views of the Mediterranean or the countryside”. Furthermore, four distinct dining options and two bars “offering the flavours of the Mediterranean and beyond” will also be added to “enhance the dining experience even more” and give guests “the opportunity try different venues during their stay”.
The management added that a family pool and fitness centre will also be included in the newly built area to complement the existing Carisma Spa. New “state of the art” conference facilities will also be available offering 960 square metres of “flexible meeting and event space”, which will be suited for both private meetings, large social gatherings, and exhibition space, with the largest venue being able to house 600 people in a “theatre style set-up”. Apart from this, there will be “ample retail space and scattered relaxation areas”.
“Upon completion, guests will be able to use three outdoor pools and a kids pool, rocky sunbathing areas at the water’s edge, as well as a small private sandy beach. The external area will also incorporate lush vegetation,” the management said.
In a separate statement on its website, Ramla Bay Resort’s management said that until it fully reopens in 2024, only the guest rooms and amenities situated in the atrium wing will be used, as was done in 2022. “The rest of the resort will be a construction site, which is already segregated and enclosed for safety reasons and to reduce its visual impact,” the management added.
Works will not be visible from guest rooms as “these overlook the Mediterranean Sea and face the islands of Comino and Gozo,” the management said, before adding that it is doing its utmost to “limit the inconvenience caused by the works”, but some disturbances may be experienced.
Ramla Bay Resort is a four-star hotel located on the northernmost shore of Malta, in the limits of Mellieha, and is built over 28,000 square metres of waterfront land.
