Business Profile
After having read for B. Commerce (Hons) in Management & Economics at the University of Malta, I started my working career at the Central Bank of Malta as a financial analyst. Through different career moves, I started my career at the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) in 2010. I worked my way up the ranks gaining valuable insights and experience in the operations of the Unit. Ongoing professional development has been key to my career and over the years I have attended numerous courses and training programmes within the field of AML/CFT, including amongst others, assessor training organised by FATF/Moneyval.
As the Director of the FIAU, I am deeply committed to ensuring our operations align with both Maltese law and international standards. I became Director in 2023, having joined the Unit in 2010. My role is to provide strategic direction and oversight of the effective execution of our responsibilities.
My work also involves active participation in AML/CFT international workshops and conferences. Representing the FIAU at prominent international forums, I regularly attend meetings of the Egmont Group of FIUs, the EU FIU Platform, and the European Banking Authority's Anti-Money Laundering Standing Committee. Additionally, from time-to-time I had the honour to serve as a Moneyval assessor, engaging in the assessment of other jurisdictions and actively participating in Moneyval working group and plenary meetings.
I am also dedicated to education, frequently delivering AML/CFT training locally and internationally. I contribute to Malta’s National ML/TF risk assessments, and I act as a key liaison with international bodies. Internally, I chair various FIAU committees, including the Compliance Monitoring Committee, which meticulously reviews compliance cases.
