Malta has welcomed the newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Zhang Zuo, who will officially begin his tenure following the presentation of his credentials to President Myriam Spiteri Debono later this month.
Ambassador Zhang, who previously served as China’s representative to North Macedonia and Bangladesh, expressed his enthusiasm for his new posting in the heart of the Mediterranean, noting his commitment to further strengthening the longstanding Malta–China relationship.
As part of his introductory engagements, Ambassador Zhang paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anġlu Farrugia.
Discussions between the two touched on areas of ongoing cooperation, including education, tourism, culture, trade, and investment.
Speaker Farrugia highlighted recent developments such as the new Institute for Tourism Studies campus in Zhengzhou, describing it as a symbol of the growing educational and people-to-people exchanges between both nations.
The meeting also explored the potential for enhanced parliamentary dialogue, with both parties agreeing on the importance of continued collaboration and mutual understanding.
Broader regional and international issues were also discussed, with emphasis placed on dialogue, peace, and multilateral engagement.
Ambassador Zhang reiterated his Government’s appreciation for Malta’s consistent support and conveyed his readiness to deepen bilateral relations across multiple sectors during his tenure in Valletta.
