Mosta’s San Remo restaurant will close its doors at the end of August, with Chef Patron Chris Borg turning his focus to a new takeout venture nearby.

Mr Borg said the decision to close down San Remo was one of the hardest he has had to take in his career.

Something of a hidden gem, San Remo has gained a reputation over the years for its quality food, generous portions, free appetisers, friendly service and cosy atmosphere.

“Over the years, San Remo has become so much more than just a snack bar—it has truly become my second home,” Mr Borg said.

“The renovations, the reputation we've built for quality food and friendly service, and the awards and certifications we've proudly received have all been possible because of the passion, hard work, and dedication of my team and me.”

He said that, like many businesses, San Remo has faced challenges related to rising costs and staffing.

“Rather than compromise on the quality and service you deserve, I have decided to take this next step in my journey,” he said.

Chef Borg’s new venture, Jimren, will be a Maltese gourmet takeaway located right opposite San Remo. He said that while it won’t offer a dine-in experience, people can expect quality food, friendly service, and some exciting new dishes.

Jimren will open with a limited menu during the upcoming Feast of Santa Marija.
