Hi-Care has made giant leaps since its inception. In just over six years, its director and owner Aleksandar Marinkovic built a network of talented individuals and shaped them into teams across various sectors; from cleaning, to recruitment, turnkey, maintenance, outsourcing, and also healthcare.
It all began at a time when the whole world screeched to a halt during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. The healthcare system came under severe pressure and the demand for qualified healthcare workers soared. “We saw the need and stepped up quickly. We started with to send employees to conduct swab tests. And we started offering carers to elderly homes and Saint James Hospital. Constant watch was the service most in demand at the time given the situation,” Mr Marinkovic explains.
Since then, Hi-Care Services has listened to its clients and continued recruiting and expanding services to fit their needs. “What we offer now are care services in both domestic environments as well as in hospital and clinic settings. We do constant watching, assist with daily living, and even post-surgery care. We help with medication and health monitoring, companionship and emotional support,” explains Client Relations Manager Rolando Villanueva.
Hi-Care’s personal care services help clients with hygiene, grooming, dressing, and mobility. It also provides daily living assistance such as help with meals, light housekeeping, and other routine tasks that make everyday life manageable. The team can also offer support to clients recovering from surgery. It offers aid with mobility, medication reminders, and day-to-day support, even going so far as 24/7 supervision if needed.
Then, perhaps most importantly, Hi-Care recognises the emotional aspect of care. That is why it places companionship as a central part of its service – offering conversation, emotional support, and genuine human connection is a top priority in its mission to promote mental well-being. Compassion is at the forefront of its approach.
Integrity is another core value, meaning that all interactions between healthcare providers and clients, families, and colleagues are honest and transparent. And respect is central – not just for clients, but for fellow caregivers and colleagues. All this, in turn, creates a commitment to excellence which keeps up the team’s standards as a collective, every single day.
“We feel good when we help our clients,” Mr Marinkovic says, “and we believe in consistency and quality. And this is why we can also act fast and offer important, time-sensitive emergency calls. If we get requests on the day, we can send someone on the same day. It’s important for us to be a reliable partner to our clients.”
To be able to deliver to this high standard, Hi-Care must find the right people to fulfill its clients needs. To ensure that the best people join the team, applicants with Hi-Care Services go through multiple rounds of interviews. “New additions to the team have to have the right skills and the right attitude,” Mr Villanueva asserts. But support is also present from induction. New caregivers get their role defined from day one and are provided with clear guidance, ongoing training from Hi-Care's supervisor, Dr Kosisochukwu Ugwumadu.
When it comes to health and safety, Hi-Care’s team is trained in infection control, proper lifting techniques, and the use of personal protective equipment. Supervisors and coordinators are always on hand to provide feedback, field and answer any questions, and make sure to provide caregivers with the support they need to do their jobs to the best of their abilities. “No team member is left to handle any difficult situation alone,” says Mr Marinkovic.
On this note, the company has a clear code of conduct. While caregivers are trained to follow established care plans, communicate effectively with supervisors, and report any concerns or changes in a client’s condition promptly, they are also never asked to perform duties for which they are not trained in or comfortable with. This ensures that boundaries are respected across the board.
For the future of Hi-Care Services, Mr Marinkovic wants to establish links with hospitals and clinics. “Currently we work closely with Saint James Hospital and it’s a very fruitful partnership that brings us great satisfaction as a team. We’re currently doing a campaign, door to door to introduce ourselves to potential clients, elderly homes, and clinics. Carers join us too, to speak with potential clients to see how we can help them. The personal approach is always present.”
Today, Hi-Care continues to forge ahead with the same commitment and compassion that defined its early days. It is more than just a care provider – it is a reliable partner to families, a support system for clients, and a rewarding employer for dedicated professionals. Whether recovering from surgery, supporting an ageing loved one, or simply seeking a little extra help around the house, “Hi-Care service is here to provide peace of mind and a better quality of life for people,” Mr Villanueva concludes.
