Malta’s business and fitness communities are mourning the loss of Mark Martin, a young sales specialist and well-loved athlete who passed away on Wednesday (yesterday) after a long and difficult medical battle involving multiple brain surgeries.

Mr Martin worked as a sales strategist at CyberSift, where colleagues remember him as a warm presence and a genuinely decent person. Across gyms and training spaces, he was known as an athlete who trained with heart and encouraged those around him.

In a message shared by STAZI Boxing Fitness Club, the team said that “our gym family has lost someone very special today.” They described Mr Martin as “the kind of person who treated everyone with respect, always had a warm smile, and made our space better just by being in it.”

They added that “his presence will be deeply missed… more than words can ever express,” and sent “strength and comfort to his family and his girlfriend Lisa during this difficult time.” They closed their tribute with the words: “Rest in peace dearest Mark. Gone too soon but never forgotten.”

Another tribute came from The Jungle Box Malta, who wrote that “with broken hearts, we say goodbye to our friend and fellow athlete, Mark Martin, who passed away after a long and incredibly brave battle in ITU.” They said that “Mark was more than a member of Junglebox, he was part of this community we call family.”

In the corporate sphere, Paul Grech, Senior Manager in Strategy and Investments at GO, reflected on the impact of even brief interactions with Mr Martin. He said, “I would not claim to have been very close to Mark Martin. We first crossed paths as colleagues, sharing the occasional chat in the corridor. Later, when he moved to our sister company CyberSift, our conversations were usually about sales opportunities or potential clients.”

He added that “even from those brief interactions, it was always clear what kind of person Mark was. Genuine, warm, eager to learn and always ready to help.” He noted that “work can sometimes feel fast and transactional, yet it’s the small interactions, the everyday kindness, and the quiet decency of people like Mark that stay with you,” and concluded by saying, “my thoughts are with his family and with everyone at CyberSift who knew him well and worked closely with him. Grateful to have crossed paths with him.”

Often described as “a true gentleman with an unforgettable smile,” his loss is being felt across the many communities he touched, from the office to the gym floor, his friends, family and fiancée.
