Stephen Abela, Director at onpoint Ltd, has always been fascinated by the interface of finance and technology in business. “Finance functions like accounting or budgeting and technology are two areas that are essential to running a successful business,” Stephen says. “Merging them can not only transform the way accounting teams go about their daily tasks, but the right software products can change how entire companies do business.”
Stephen believes that Bizview has the potential to be a game-changer for Maltese businesses. Focused on planning, budgeting, and forecasting, the software complements onpoint’s other products and is ideal for complex organisations operating across several countries and locations.
“Most people in business know how to work with Excel spreadsheets, but as companies grow there comes a point where a single spreadsheet no longer fits on the screen and multiple spreadsheets become difficult to reconcile,” he explains.
Companies don’t need to be large to reach that point. All it takes is working internationally and having multiple revenue streams. “Many Maltese businesses are not necessarily large, but they have teams or clients in different countries,” Stephen says. “That level of complexity warrants a powerful, cost-effective solution.”
Bizview not only streamlines a company’s planning and budgeting process, but the software allows different departments to access critical information within a few keystrokes. “Bizview easily visualises a company’s current situation for every department,” Stephen explains.
Managers and team members can quickly get answers to questions like how the business is doing and what progress is being made toward overall business goals. “Departments like warehousing or sales may need different information, but having all relevant details accessible in one place makes things easier. Bizview has the power to be the one go-to that connects all the dots in the company.”
With offices in Malta, Czechia, Ghana, Tunisia, and Nigeria, onpoint Ltd is an example of a Malta-based company with ties abroad but strong roots at home. Recently the business expanded further, opening an office in the US. “In each of our locations, our teams work with clients locally,” Stephen says. Team members have a profound understanding of local market conditions and potential pain points.
To remain at the top of their game, onpoint encourages teams and individual team members to continuously grow their skills and knowledge while striking a healthy work-life balance. The company offers some remote work but believes being in the same office creates synergies.
One of the key challenges onpoint’s teams have to overcome in their markets is a certain resistance to change when it comes to implementing technological solutions. “Sometimes, clients are a little reluctant to change the way they run their businesses,” Stephen has noticed. Change can be daunting, but with the right support, it doesn’t need to be disruptive to business operations.
Stephen Abela and his team have found that explaining the implementation process and highlighting the advantages of well-designed and carefully implemented software alleviates fears in most cases: “Once Maltese businesses understand the benefits of a specific solution, though, they’re happy to embrace new technologies. Often, we find that initial hesitation dissipates once clients start on their journey of implementing technology successfully.”
To give clients the confidence to opt for and implement new software systems, the onpoint team takes a comprehensive approach to customer service throughout the process. Starting with identifying the most suitable solution for a company, accompanying clients through the deployment stages of each product and removing snags are all part of the service.
In-depth training for client employees is another key aspect of the company’s offering, and the support doesn’t stop when software deployment is finished. The team remains in close contact with clients and offers support whenever needed.
“Our products can streamline every facet of clients’ business operations. In fact, they can become central to a company’s success, especially if different software solutions are integrated to work effectively.”
Looking ahead to 2025, Stephen Abela is cautiously optimistic, although he admits that it’s hard to forecast economic developments precisely. “The political scene is likely to change drastically in 2025,” he says. “Because Malta is a smaller country with extensive international ties, global developments can have a bigger influence here.”
Stephen is looking forward to doubling down on the company’s efforts in the countries where it currently operates and leveraging onpoint’s international talent: “Whenever we have calls with team members from all our locations, we see first-hand how much we all benefit from hearing different perspectives on a problem.”
Over the next 12 months, Stephen and his colleagues are looking to expand the company’s reach nationally and internationally. In its existing locations in Malta, Czechia, Ghana, Tunisia, Nigeria, and the recent addition in the United States, onpoint is planning to increase its market share.
At the same time, the onpoint leadership team is also looking at expanding into other markets. European and African countries are on Stephen Abela’s radar, but he is also keenly watching the UK. With powerful software solutions and a solid customer service offering, the future is looking bright for onpoint Ltd.
