29 architects have received their warrants to start practicing their profession and work within the industry.

The warrants were presented by the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia.

During the ceremony Mr Farrugia remarked that architects play a pivotal role in Malta’s development, particularly to reach sustainable development.

“I encourage all architects to have courage and be drastic in their vision so that no one can limit their dreams. Courageous initiatives change the world,” Mr Farrugia said.

He continued by saying that Malta’s future is in their hands, and he is convinced that the 29 architects “will raise standards.”

Mr Farrugia concluded his speech by reminding them that every building they create, any space that they design will be part of their legacy and that “it is crucial that they show passion, innovation and effort in their profession.”

During the ceremony, Periti Warrants Board Chairman Frank Psaila highlighted that since the establishment of the board, in August 2022, 226 architects have been warranted.

In 1919, the Architects’ Ordnance legislation was put into practice, establishing the Kamra tal-Periti, handing out the first ever warrants.

He also made reference to a number of “needed and courageous” reforms in the sector.

“Reforms put everyone under responsibility, architects are no exception,” he said.

In his closing remarks he appealed to the architects for responsibility when taking decisions, to be proud of their profession and make use of it to leave a legacy behind, so that it can be enjoyed by future generations.
