On Thursday, in a statement, Malta Freeport Terminals expressed its sadness over the loss of Raymond Mifsud, after battling for his life for the past two weeks.

The 58-year-old part-time port worker was seriously injured on 20th October after the truck he was driving collided with another vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old from Rabat, while carrying out operations on a container ship.

On the day of the accident, Mr Mifsud received immediate first aid from the on-duty Freeport nurse before the emergency services to transfer him to hospital.

Whilst a magisterial inquiry and police investigation are currently under way, the Freeport is also conducting an investigation into the accident.

An outpouring of condolences and memories have been shared on social media with many commenting on his kind-heartedness and his ability to give advice to friends and colleagues.

Union UĦM - Voice of the Workers also expressed sadness over the passing of Mr Mifsud whilst sending condolences to his family and friends.
