DroneMail, a company based in Birkirkara, is making history with its high speed electric drones which are set to replace helicopters in their role of filming motorsport races from above.

Nilsen Filc, the founder of the company, is said to be “working closely” with the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, the governing body for many auto racing events like Formula One, busy “shaping regulation in this emergent field”.

StartinMalta, which serves as the main focal point for both local and foreign start-ups in Malta, took to LinkedIn to announce that Mr Filc’s high speed electric drones “will be used to film the electric race care championships instead of helicopters”.

It said the partnership will bring together “both aerial and terrestrial electric innovation”.

The use of drones will allow the camera to track the race using angles commonly seen on racing video games but very difficult to emulate in real life - until now.

StartinMalta said DroneMail “has finally made it possible to spectate motorsport races from the elusive ‘PlayStation Perspective’.

DroneMail is an aerospace robotics design and manufacturing company, which says it is “delivering a disruptive approach to super-efficient, autonomous, zero-emission transportation of goods in the sky using our own design and manufactured electric drone aircraft”.

The company, whose team includes elite software developers, engineers, designers, PHD mathematicians, airframe materials developers, carbon fibre experts, and world-class high-performance drone pilots, aims to help reduce carbon footprints with fewer car and van delivery journeys.
