The Malta Digital Innovation Authority’s new Mriehel premises has officially been inaugurated.

Speaking at the inauguration, Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said the country is regarded as an excellent example in this sector because of its success in creating updated legislation and regulation and licencing systems in the digital sector.

He said that the cryptocurrencies and digital economy systems can prove to be sustainable beneficiates to the country’s economy.

The Minister added that the Government is strengthening legislation to prevent system abuses through the scrutiny of individuals and operations that may hamper the works of the authority.

Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Clayton Bartolo, said the Government is committed to implement and honour its aims for the Maltese vision of becoming an international technological hub.

He said with these aims in mind work is being carried out on the infrastructure that will be adequate for the training of human resource to enable their competence and skills to be able to operate the sector.

Mr Bartolo said that MDIA has been identified as a competent sector by the EU in the certification of cyber security and has already successfully deployed a number of digital initiatives.
