Although the postman continues to call as usual notwithstanding the coronavirus restrictions, MaltaPost said its important revenue streams have been impacted significantly.

In a company announcement, MaltaPost said that, despite the challenges faced, it continues to deliver postal services uninterruptedly, with only minor disruptions mainly due to health and safety issues.

“However, other areas of operational activity have been significantly affected, not least by the sharp decline in flight connections to and from Malta. As may well be expected, this unplanned interruption is having a negative impact on some of our more important revenue streams and which we are in part rigorously mitigating through the efficient and judicious management of costs, together with other related efficiencies. Currently, it is not at all clear when the situation regarding flights is likely to return to normal,” it added.

Apart from the distribution of domestic postal items and a retail network service, MaltaPost also offers a worldwide delivery service provided by two of its service lines: Express Mail Service and MaltaPost Express International.

MaltaPost said that, given the very fluid nature of the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, it continues to focus attention on risk management strategies aimed at minimising the related adverse effects on its stakeholders. Lombard Bank is the majority shareholder in MaltaPost plc.

It lauded the loyalty and dedication of its staff members who, it said, perform well in the face of extremely challenging times.
