Xewkija’s Magro Brothers recently announced a €12.5 million investment plan with the aim to increase the production of its table sauces.
The investment plan, spread over four years and divided into three phases, was announced during a visit at the company’s factory from Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri together with Minister for Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri.
Established in 1916, Magro Brothers works in a number of sectors, including tomatoes and canning operation, together with the production of dairy products and craft food. The company, which principally operates from The Magro Food Village, also has investments in property development, real estate, and in the retail sector.
Over recent years, the company experienced substantial growth in its exportation of table sauces and during 2024 it reached full capacity of production. Through this investment, Magro Brothers expects to require 15 specialised technicians, prompting also the need for 28 new full-time workers. Additionally, it also aims to reduce its energy consumption and allow consumers to recycle the table sauces bottles.
Magro Brothers CEO Chris Magro said that through this investment, the company “will be able to double the production of its table sauces aimed more towards the international market.”
“This means that the company will be matching the top five European companies in this sector both in terms of size and quality,” he added.
Minister Camilleri said that he is always satisfied during his visits to the company, particularly since it is “continuously investing to improve its operations, invest in its workers, and grow to reach new niches, not just in our country, but also beyond our shores.” He added that this investment consists of “the latest technology from the world of table sauces production that will generate more jobs for Gozo and Gozitans.”
Minister Schembri said that the family behind Magro Brothers is a “clear example” that a small country like Malta has “many possibilities.” He affirmed that through this project, Magro Brothers will not only be increasing its operations, but they will “also be moving in line with the principles of Government, focusing on sustainability and also investing so that they work with practices that protect the environment.”
Minister Camilleri thanked Magro Brothers for the company’s work in the sector, before wishing it well for the new investment plan.
