The Gozitan cultural scene is paying tribute to Dolindo Cassar, esteemed former President of Socjetà Filarmonika La Stella and Teatru Astra, who passed away on 1st May 2026 at the age of 83.
Born on 16th April 1943, Mr Cassar dedicated a significant part of his life to the advancement of culture in Gozo. During his tenure, he led both institutions with what has been described as integrity, commitment, and a deep-rooted passion for the arts, contributing to their continued growth and relevance within the community.
His work with La Stella and Teatru Astra played a key role in strengthening Victoria’s cultural fabric, with his leadership spanning years marked by artistic development and community engagement. His contribution is being remembered as one that enriched not only the institutions he served but also the wider Gozitan public.
In a statement, Socjetà Filarmonika La Stella and Teatru Astra expressed their sorrow at his passing, describing him as a leader whose “steadfast devotion and exemplary service will remain an inspiration for generations to come”.
His funeral is being held today, with the Banda Ċittadina La Stella participating in the cortege at 4.45pm from Republic Street. The funeral Mass will follow at St George’s Basilica at 5.30pm, as family, friends, members, and the wider community gather to bid farewell.
Mr Cassar is being remembered with gratitude and admiration for a lifetime dedicated to culture and community in Gozo.
