Main Street Complex has announced that it has reached a new agreement for the lease of two of the three floors of its largest store, which will now host Malta's second Lindex outlet.

The two floors offer 562 square metres of shop floor in aggregate and will be occupied by the prominent international womenswear company under a ten-year lease agreement from 1st April 2022.

This space was previously occupied by United Department Stores Limited, at the time franchisee for the Debenhams brand in Malta, which was forced to withdraw due to the collapse of the international brand.

At the time it was indicated that discussions were underway between the respective management teams of the company and United Department Stores Limited with respect to the terms of said termination and ensuing vacating of the store.

Furthermore, the mall had indicated that the process for identifying a suitable alternative tenant for the operation of the store in question was underway.

The top floor, consisting of 360 square metres remains vacant and available to rent, Main Street has clarified.

Welcoming the new tenants, it said it is “delighted” to complement the existing array of brands within the facility with Lindex, and that it looks forward to the company beginning operations.

In the meantime, its management team will continue in its efforts to conclude agreements with suitable occupants for the remaining vacant parts of the complex, it confirmed.

Lindex has undergone a rapid expansion into Malta this year, opening its first store as recently as April, with a 700 square metre facility at the Bay Street Shopping Complex in St Julian’s.

The store, which is operated together with Lindex’s franchise partner John Manché, is one of Malta’s largest fashion outlets serving women and children.

Mr Manché celebrated the opening at the , saying the company is “very happy to open a store in Malta together with the strong fashion brand Lindex”, explaining that “the inspiring, affordable and more sustainable fashion feels right for the Maltese customer”.
