A partial agreement has been reached between Central Business Centres (CBC) and LIDL in the ongoing dispute related to the new Żebbuġ supermarket.
CBC issued a market update, six days after announcing it had frozen LIDL’s bank guarantee over its failure to delver part of the Żebbuġ site to CBC as per the conditions of its deed.
The supermarket, LIDL’s 11th Maltese outlet, was built on the site of the former Cortis timber factory.
CDC announced today that, after several meetings, a partial agreement was reached between the two parties.
“It was agreed that LIDL will extend the Works Bank Guarantee for another period, giving ample time to complete the works and to hand over part of the Żebbuġ property to CDC in accordance with the deed,” the company said.
“It was further agreed that the remaining pending issues will be referred to arbitration. In the light of this development the Company has halted its actions against LIDL. The Company undertakes to keep the public informed on any developments as may be necessary.”
