John Licari has been promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Malta (UoM), a position he says would not be possible without the support of his colleagues, mentors, students and family.

Dr Ing. Licari academic journey first saw him secure a First-Class B.Eng. (Hons) degree in electrical engineering from the University of Malta in 2008.

He was later awarded the Presidents’ Scholarship from Cardiff University in 2010 to carry out doctoral research in control of variable speed wind turbines.

He completed his PhD degree in 2013 and is currently a senior lecturer and the Head of Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Malta. He is also an associate member of the Institute for Sustainable Energy at the same University.

Dr Licari has published more than 25 international peer-reviewed journal and conference papers on wind turbines, control of power converters for various applications, power systems, zero energy buildings, microgrids, and energy efficiency.

He is a senior member of the IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity and is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, as well as the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE).
