Malta’s banking community on Thursday mourned the loss of Adrian Borg, a prominent banking professional and lawyer, who most recently worked at the European Court of Justice.

Taking to social media, Malta’s Independent Bankers Union (IBU), shared the sad news and reminisced on Dr Borg's character as a “loving and caring and very kind person full of life spirit”.

“He is a man who touched so many people’s hearts and made friends in everyone he met”, the Union stated.

Aside from his work as a lawyer at the European Court of Justice, Dr Borg also worked at HSBC Malta.

Individuals from all sides of the professional world in Malta joined in marking his life, with many expressing shock and disbelief.

He was “funny, energetic, bubbly and jubilant in a unique way”, said one commenter, adding that he was "also an accomplished lawyer ready to help everyone".

Dr Borg was also the brother of former European Commissioner Tonio Borg.
