Gianluca Busuttil has been named the winner of Deloitte Malta’s annual Mark de Giorgio award for 2022, he announced on Friday.
The award was founded in 2002 in remembrance of former Deloitte and Touche Partner Mark de Giorgio, who passed away at the age of 47 the year before. He had joined the firm in 1985 and was one of the key people that helped it grow from a mid-sized practice to one of Malta's leading accounting companies.
Dr Busuttil remarked that he is “immensely honoured” to receive the award. “The possibility of association with the legacy of Mark de Giorgio, and that of the previous winners of this award, is more than I ever hoped for when I joined in 2019,” he added.
“My thanks to the people at this firm who have guided me along, and to my amazing colleagues and team for creating the kind of environment which fosters excellence,” he said, before adding that they will “aim to do even better in 2023”.
Dr Busuttil joined the firm as Senior in 2019, and over a year after, he was named Manager within its tax department after completing the Malta Institute of Taxation’s course on taxation. He specialises in gambling law, anti-money-laundering and combating the financing of terrorism law, commercial and corporate law, insolvency law, and data privacy law. Since he joined Deloitte, he has provided regulatory advice on a number of high-profile client engagements, particularly the formulation of regulatory policy in the fields of corporate and insolvency law.
Prior to that, he worked at Malta-based law firm David Zahra & Associates Advocates for four years, initially as Legal Trainee, and then as Junior Associate. Among his qualifications, he holds a Master of Advocacy and a Bachelor of Laws, both from University of Malta.
