GasanMamo Insurance has announced that it will continue its long-standing commitment to Malta’s cultural heritage through its latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative – the sponsorship of the newly installed lighting system at the historic White Tower in Aħrax, Mellieħa.

This project, undertaken in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa and the Mellieħa Local Council, enhances the visibility and preservation of one of Malta’s treasured landmarks.

Built in 1656 during the rule of the Order of St. John, the White Tower was part of a coastal defence network. It was later fortified in 1716 and served various roles, including as a British Naval Hydrophones Training Station. After years of neglect, Din l-Art Ħelwa and the Mellieħa Local Council restored it, transforming it into an educational site showcasing Malta’s marine biodiversity and cultural heritage.

The newly installed lighting system was designed with sustainability in mind. Using custom-made low-level floodlights, it highlights the tower’s historic ditch while minimising light pollution and protecting local wildlife.

Patrick Calleja, Executive President of Din l-Art Ħelwa, stated, “As the national trust for Malta, we wanted to raise awareness of this remarkable site while respecting its natural surroundings. Thanks to GasanMamo Insurance’s support, this has become a reality.”

Julian Mamo, Managing Director of GasanMamo Insurance, added, “The White Tower represents an important part of Malta’s history, and we are proud to contribute to its preservation for future generations.”
