She is joined another partner at her firm, Adrian Attard, who was elected to serve on the Executive Committee for the first time.

The election was held at the MMLA’s annual meeting in December, which was held in a hybrid format, with some joining in person and some joining virtually.

Dr Fenech opened the meeting with an update on the latest developments regarding the Beijing Draft Convention on the Effects of Judicial Sale of Ships.

This was followed by a presentation by Jotham Scerri Diacono on the workings of the subcommittee revising the MSA (Merchant Shipping Act) while Dr Attard explained the workings of the same subcommittee concerning the Revision of the COCP (Code of Organisation and Civil Procedure).

The Malta Maritime Law Association is a highly active Association, which strives to offer its members a forum for discussion and debate on maritime law issues and is instrumental in assisting with the constant update of our maritime laws and laws of procedure that impact the practice of maritime law.

Dr Fenech has served as its President since 2008. She is a leading local figure in the maritime law sector, serving in several roles at different organisations. This includes serving on the Board of Directors at the Malta Maritime Forum and as Lecturer on the Role of Maritime Law Practitioners at the International Maritime Law Institute.

Dr Attard is also a distinguished maritime lawyer, with a strong specialism in the sector. Both his Law Doctorate and Masters dissertation focused on areas of maritime law.

Responding to his appointment on the Committee, he said: “I am extremely honoured to be serving on the MMLA’s Executive Committee.”
