Farsons Group on Tuesday commemorated Lilian Miceli Farrugia on her “meaningful life” after she passed away aged 98 last week.

Ms Miceli Farrugia married former Farsons Group Managing Director Anthony Miceli Farrugia in 1946, and aside from raising their six children, she was also actively involved in the social and philanthropic activities of her husband’s entrepreneurial ventures. Mr Miceli Farrugia served as Managing Director of the group from 1956 up until his retirement in 1995.

“A symbol of optimism and generosity, Lilian’s mission and impact extended far beyond the Farsons community,” the company shared.

“Her love for others was shown through her life’s work, as she lent her organisational skills to Church-inspired philanthropic organisations like the Sacred Heart Convent, where she was educated, the Missionaries of Charity, the Little Sisters of the Poor, and the charitable arm of the Maltese Association of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta,” it added.

Throughout her life, Ms Miceli Farrugia took part in a number of her own philanthropic pursuits, including being hand-picked by Mother Teresa of Calcutta to lead her co-workers during her first visit to Malta in 1967. She also worked with Mother Teresa to build a school for children with special needs in Albania. In 1999, she was voted Malta’s Senior Citizen of the Year.

Additionally, she was a member of voluntary organisation SOS Malta when it was founded in 1991, and also became its first ever Chairperson. The organisation was established to address the hunger and poverty-stricken Albanians that reached Malta during the early nineties, by providing humanitarian aid and emergency food supplies. Since then, the organisation has become a development agency providing long-term social, economic, and political development for the people of Albania.

Farsons Group remarked that Ms Miceli Farrugia does not only leave behind a loving family, but also a “legacy of goodness and compassion”.

“Condolences go to Lilian’s family, friends, and everyone whose life she meaningfully impacted,” it concluded.
