Applications are open for the European Commission’s 2026 call for new European Climate Pact Ambassadors, with interested individuals invited to apply by 31st October.

The European Climate Pact, an initiative managed by the Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action, is seeking people across the European Union who are committed to climate action and willing to promote it within their communities and networks.

Pact Ambassadors are expected to inform, inspire and support climate policy and action by helping people understand the causes and effects of climate change and the measures that can be taken to address it.

Their activities may include representing the Pact at local, national and EU-level events, organising workshops and community meetings, and coordinating initiatives such as tree-planting days, car-free activities and awareness-raising events. They also connect local climate advocates with networks, groups and decision-makers to share solutions.

Those selected will join a pan-European network comprising more than 1,000 Ambassadors and over 100 Partners, including local and regional authorities, entrepreneurs, academics and youth leaders.

Ambassadors will have access to training, tools and resources covering climate policy, citizen engagement and advocacy. They will also be able to participate in events including the annual European Climate Pact event, monthly Community Talks and Community Cafés, and European Climate Action Academy webinars. Their work will be promoted through the Pact’s website, social media channels and events, and they will receive official recognition from the European Commission.

The call is open to community leaders, leaders of organisations and associations, informal groups and movements, mayors, parliamentarians, policymakers, public office holders, representatives of cultural, educational and research institutions, as well as influencers and opinion leaders.

The initiative particularly welcomes applicants with experience in social inclusion, poverty eradication and supporting vulnerable groups. It also seeks people committed to engaging communities with lower levels of climate awareness or limited involvement in climate action.

Ambassadorships are awarded to individuals, meaning applicants must apply in their personal capacity rather than on behalf of an organisation or company. Applicants must hold a valid residence permit issued by an EU Member State, demonstrate a commitment to climate action and have no known history of public allegations involving unlawful activity, environmental misconduct or greenwashing.

The role is voluntary, with Ambassadors acting in their personal or professional capacity without representing the European Commission.

Successful applicants will complete an e-learning onboarding course and establish a climate action commitment comprising at least three specific actions for the year. These may include citizen engagement activities, collaboration with schools, youth groups or business networks, and communication activities through local, national or international channels.

During their mandate, Ambassadors must also participate in at least two European-level events organised by the Climate Pact Secretariat and at least two national activities coordinated by their Country Coordinator. They must report on these activities annually to be eligible for renewal.

Applications will be reviewed in November and December, with successful candidates expected to be notified in early 2027.

Those who are not selected, as well as individuals who are not yet ready to become Ambassadors, can join the community as Friends of the Pact. This option is open throughout the year to anyone living or based in the EU and provides access to newsletters, resources, national updates and events, early invitations to EU-level events, and opportunities to participate in challenges and campaigns.

Full guidelines and the application form are available on the European Climate Pact’s website.
