Universal Import and Export Limited (UIEL) is celebrating its 50-year anniversary, having been founded in 1972 by Gul Mohnani.

Originally, the company was set up to serve the needs of the textile industry which was growing at the time. However, over time, it adapted to the changing industrial climate and decline of the textile sector in Malta. It evolved to provide a wide range of products and solutions adapted to the needs and requests of a wider range of industrial clients.

Today, UIEL is still primarily an importer and distributer. The main product lines of the company are packaging, machines, labels, printers, adhesives, sealants, health and safety equipment, marine products and various other niche technical products for industry. The major industries located in Malta in the electronics, food, pharmaceutical, medical, marine, aluminium, woodwork and plastics sectors are served by the company.

After the passing of the company’s founder, the company continued to embrace the original vision with a focus on niche areas within the manufacturing industry. It adds value through the years of accumulated experience dealing with various manufacturing businesses, constant research on the latest available technology and diversifications into new and emerging markets.

The company will be focusing on the implementation of more automation , which will help make it more competitive, cost effective and resilient for its clients.

In the future, UIEL plans to explore opportunities of expanding the core business geographically into other markets to serve other manufacturing industries.
