During a visit to Carlo Gavazzi Malta LTD, Minister for Research, Innovation and the Co-ordination of Post COVID-19 Strategy, Owen Bonnici said the company “is a clear and strong example of how research and innovation in the private sector is the key towards more competitiveness, job creation and economic growth.”
He praised the company for its emphasis on innovation, which he said is so pronounced that its research and development team amounts to 15 per cent of the total workforce.
Dr Bonnici declared that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education for children are very important, and stressed that Carlo Gavazzi is testament to the need of having a workforce which is equipped with the skill set needed in today’s and tomorrow’s economy.
The company’s products are created, developed, manufactured, and tested locally. It also collaborates with the University of Malta and MCAST for its staff training and apprenticeship.
Recently, Carlo Gavazzi also participated in programmes offered by various entities, including the Malta Council for Science and Technology.
The company was established in Malta in 1978 and is responsible for the ‘Switches’ product line portfolio, the research and development section of the company was established in 1998.
Dr Bonnici’s visit included a Surface Mount Technology Production tour, the Minister also toured the company’s internal research and development department accompanied general manager Noel Micallef and R&D manager, Roger Galea.
