As global hype builds for the movie adaptation of ‘Wicked’, to come out in November 2024, the composer behind the musical, Stephen Schwartz, will be making a special appearance live in Malta for a concert.

Showcasing his greatest hits, Oscar, Grammy and Tony award-winning composer, Mr Schwartz will perform at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

Titled ‘Stephen Schwartz: Defying Gravity – Live in Concert,’ it will take place on 29th September and will be accompanied by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

In addition, further national and international guests will be announced in the coming weeks.

Audiences will be treated to an intimate journey through his musical hits along with introspective stories of how these power ballads came to fruition.

Mr Schwartz is also the writer of global hits including ‘When You Believe’ performed by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, for the animated movie ‘The Prince of Egypt,’ a Schwartz-Hans Zimmer collaboration.

The composer’s other film collaborations include many works with Alan Menken, including ‘Colours of The Wind’ for Pocahontas, ‘Out There’ from The Hunchback of Notre Dame as well as popular live action/animated musical crossovers Enchanted and Disenchanted from Walt Disney Pictures.

Aside from his work, Mr Schwartz is most renowned for ‘Wicked’. This musical ranks as one of the best-selling shows in all Broadway history, second to ‘The Lion King’ on a global scale.

Overall, he has written over 14 musicals and is the only songwriter in Broadway history to have three shows run more than 1,900 performances, with Wicked hitting that record back in 2008.

His theatre work includes Godspell, Pippin, The Baker’s Wife, Children of Eden and The Prince of Egypt, with themes often centred on magic, family and perseverance.

Limited tickets will be available here.
