AP Valletta Executive Director Konrad Buhagiar won the President’s Award during the Malta Architecture and Spatial Planning (MASP) ceremony on Sunday evening.

The award recognises Perit Buhagiar as having made an outstanding contribution to the architecture and spatial planning profession through the years through research, education, theory or practice.

The award is granted in recognition of a distinguished lifetime service to the architecture and planning profession.

Perit Buhagiar has indeed been responsible for numerous restoration and rehabilitation works on historic buildings and urban sites, and has lectured at establishments including the University of Malta, the Canterbury University College of Creative Arts, and the New York University.

He has also published numerous historical and academic articles and has served as Chairman of both the Heritage Advisory Committee and the Valletta Rehabilitation Committee.

AP Valletta also won the Restoration Award for the restoration of Manoel Theatre and received a commendation for Valletta Townhouse in collaboration with MTGF design studio.

The firm has been the resident architects of Manoel Theatre since 1996, planning the refurbishment and expansion programme embarked upon in the late 1990s.

Over the years, AP Valletta was also entrusted with a number of restoration innovations and, more recently, with the installation of a new hybrid climate control system in the baroque auditorium, which has been restored to its original layout.
