Risk management and anti-money laundering specialist Anthony Eddington has left his position as Head of Financial Crime Compliance at the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) to start a new job at UK-based financial consultancy Exiger Ltd, he shared on Sunday.

He will be working with the EMEA Advisory Solutions team at Exiger, assisting clients in maintaining regulatory compliance, minimising risks, and also investigating financial crimes.

Mr Eddington spent more than two years at the MFSA, having joined in 2020 following a series of managerial appointments. During his time at the financial services regulator, he was responsible for the financial crime compliance function, leading a team of 25 supervisors and overseeing a number of cross-sector supervisory inspections and the development of the supervisory programme. Among his other responsibilities, he was also tasked with representing Malta in its engagement with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and Moneyval in respect of Malta’s mutual evaluation, driving anti-money laundering and combating financial terrorism transformation in the country to deliver FATF technical compliance and effectiveness.

Prior to his time at the MFSA, Mr Eddington served in a number of senior positions at various banks outside of Malta and was also Detective Sergeant and Acting Detective Inspector at Greater London’s Metropolitan Police for more than 10 years.

Mr Eddington is qualified in operational risk and Islamic banking from The Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and is also a certified cryptocurrency investigator from Blockchain Intelligence Group.

Established in 2002, the MFSA is the single regulator of financial services in Malta, with this encompassing all financial activity of credit institutions, financial and electronic money institutions, securities and investment services companies, regulated markets, insurance companies, pension schemes and trustees.
