Well aware of the significance of its Malta-based client base, KSi Malta continues to keep an eye on international business by expanding its worldwide reach.

The professional services firm has been in the business for more than forty years, while its expertise covers a spectrum of auditing, accounting, tax and consultancy services.

Dennis Mark Gauci, Partner at KSi Malta, has been responsible for international clients since 2008. Well-travelled, Dr Gauci has a wealth of experience and a wide network of contacts across the globe, from markets that promise  potential to more traditional commercial hubs.

The firm was established by Dr Gauci’s father, Joseph Gauci, some 45 years ago, and today boasts a large amount clients in all sectors, particularly in retail, catering & hospitality, elderly care, construction & development, maritime, and manufacturing.

Dr Gauci has been involved with KSi Malta for more than twenty years, with his first venture on the international front being a visit to Brussels. Malta was then still starting to savour the prospects of membership within the European Union. This was soon followed up with a trip to Nigeria, meeting potential clients in Abuja and Lagos.  Fast forward to today, KSi Malta has a specific team focusing on international clients and attracting investment to Malta.

The European network is already well established. In addition to this, Dr Gauci looks beyond to assist Maltese business in jurisdictions that can be particularly suitable as well as attract further investment. KSi Malta’s target markets include the MENA region, South America and North Africa, with solid capabilities to refer and help clients to connect with potential partners. Dr Gauci points out that the firm has attracted over 300 clients to Malta in the last ten years and is the result of decades of experience and networking.

An eye towards international business and its feet firmly on the ground: KSi talks strategy and wellbeing

For the past 12 years, KSi Malta is also a member of Morison Global, an international association of independently-owned firms providing professional services. The London-based association is present in 74 countries and across all continents, providing a steady foothold to gain a wider reach. Attesting to the level of interest both in the Maltese market and that of local companies looking for opportunities abroad, client referrals go both ways.

Analysing the current state-of-play, Dr Gauci considers that as a country now is the time to consolidate and buttress what has been achieved so far, so as to be in a better shape to compete with other jurisdictions. He states that it is important “to join forces and offer an impeccable service as Malta”.

KSi Malta itself is investing in terms of recruitment, software and more, looking favourably at the upcoming period with other substantial initiatives in the pipeline. The firm seeks to grow continuously, and through the headwinds of recent years, it has only lost a few clients, he asserts. Here, Dr Gauci adds that after the first six months of 2023, the firm is already on track to exceed last year’s growth. It has also managed to strike a healthy balance in its portfolio, with a 50:50 ratio of foreign and locally-owned clients.

Dr Gauci explains that the values passed on by his father, Joseph Gauci, of trustworthiness, loyalty and integrity, permeate throughout the business and are greatly emphasised by his sons. He gives various examples of the strong relationship that the firm upholds with its clients, through thick and thin. Now comprising of around 70 professionals working at KSi Malta, Dr Gauci considers the firm to be the leader in the SME & Family business sphere.

Indeed, employee well-being is an important element within the company’s philosophy, translating into strong, working relationships with clients. At KSi Malta’s new flagship office in Msida, an entire floor is dedicated for leisure. And, the firm goes beyond, including efforts to support the overall health of its staff members, resulting in high retention rates and preserving in-house knowledge.

On a more personal note, Dr Gauci shares that he is passionate about yachting, another sector that KSi Malta operates in with various superyachts under its care. And, while there is stiff competition in the Mediterranean, he is highly confident in Malta, having carved out a niche within this sector thanks to its status as a sought-after destination in the boating world, backed by experienced professionals able to service yachting customers.

The partners at the firm are highly involved with all clients, monitoring developments and offering a personal service, for which the firm wishes to continue being renowned. Dr Gauci pinpoints that as a first rule, which is also adopted by new recruits, the KSi team continuously reinforce relationships with current clients, and then invest in new ones.

This emphasis on strong relationships also extends to the families whose support allows the business side to constantly move forward. With KSi Malta now running into its second generation as a family concern, Dr Gauci is well aware that the values on which the company was founded keeps them in good stead. And while KSi Malta continues to grow, he attests that with a humble and approachable spirit, coupled with a reputation of integrity, ensures they can continue to forge ahead, creating new bonds and delivering for their clients’ success.
