36 newly qualified architects have officially received their professional warrant.

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia described the role of an architect as “not just a profession, but a vocation,” emphasising that the newly warranted professionals now carry the responsibility of helping design “a Malta of tomorrow that is better and more beautiful than the Malta we know today.”

He noted that architects will play an essential role in the implementation of Vision Malta 2050, pointing specifically to pillars such as sustainable economic growth and the intelligent use of land and sea. “Every architect has a crucial role to play in shaping our nation,” he said.

Frank Psaila, Chairperson of the Architects Warranting Board, remarked that the Board’s purpose is to rigorously assess and evaluate applicants to ensure they meet the standards required to obtain a warrant. He said the 36 new warrant holders would continue contributing to a better quality of life in Malta.

Perit Andre Pizzuto, President of the Kamra tal-Periti, added that the profession has been strengthened with the addition of new professionals who bear “the responsibility of taking the best decisions in the interest of public health and safety.”

During the event, it was also noted that since the beginning of 2024, the Architects Warranting Board has issued a total of 115 warrants to newly qualified architects  – reflecting both continued growth in the profession and the increasing demand for skilled architectural work across the country.

The architects’ warrant has a long history, having been established through the Architects Ordinance of 1919. The following year, in 1920, the Kamra tal-Periti was founded and the first warrants were issued under the same law  – cementing more than a century of professional regulation and architectural practice in Malta.
