Wolt has urged courier partners to reach out whenever one of their drivers suffers from abuse or harassment while on the job.

This comes after a Wolt driver was hit with a rock while driving along St Julian’s Triq ix-Xatt Ta’ San Ġorg last weekend, by what seemed to be a group of teenagers. He proceeded to stop and turn back, driving towards their direction, yet the individuals then ran away as the driver shouted at them.

Following this incident, WhosWho.mt reached out to Wolt for their perspective on the matter, with a spokesperson stating that the team “was not informed” about the incident by the courier partner.

“However, our courier support is available 24/7 and I would like to call every courier partner facing any kind of issue, to contact us and let us know how we can help,” they added.

The spokesperson highlighted that any form of violence, offensive or racist behaviour goes against Wolt’s “culture and core values as an organisation.”

“We condemn the incident, and we strongly believe that the authorities will do whatever it takes to tackle such phenomena,” they added.

The spokesperson stated that this was the first time that Wolt was informed of such an incident in Malta, however, when similar cases came up in other markets and countries, it was “addressed officially with the authorities and the relevant ministries of justice, asking to take action and provide protection.”

Similar incidents have been reported in recent months, most notably involving a courier working with rival food delivery company Bolt, who was pelted with eggs while he was riding his motorcycle in Marsa.

“If we feel that this is becoming a general problem for Malta and not just a couple of isolated incidents, we will do the same, reaching out to the local authorities, asking them for cooperation in order to deal with the problem,” the Wolt spokesperson added.
