A former journalist, Kurt Farrugia was named Head of Government Communication and Prime Minister’s Spokesman in 2013. He was appointed by the Prime Minister to the Malta-UK Business Promotion Task Force in August 2017, actively contributing to matters related to investment promotion in the UK.

“In April 2019,” he recalls, “I was made Member of the New Economic Niches Committee at Malta Enterprise. I formed part of the Task Force organising the Valletta Summit on Migration and the 2015 Commonwealth Head of Governments Meeting as well as the Informal European Council during Malta’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in February 2017.”

In his official capacity, Mr Farrugia, who was active in politics in the past, accompanied the Prime Minister in most of his international engagements at EU level.

He graduated in Communications from the University of Malta and is now reading for a Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship, also at the University of Malta.

Malta Enterprise, whose predecessors date back to the 1950s, round about the time industrial development started in Malta, is the country's economic development agency, tasked with attracting new foreign direct investment and also facilitating the growth of existing operations. It also acts as an adviser to the Government on economic policy due to its close and constant interaction with the main economic players in the country.

Malta Enterprise is the national contact point for the Enterprise Europe Network, through which companies based in Malta can develop links with counterparts in over 60 other countries.
